Roots Reggae Café and Restaurant
We are a small business in Mdumbi Village, Transkei, South Africa.
We have a restaurant serving traditional Xhosa food, a cafe, a grocery store, as well as village accommodation.
Location & Surrounds
We are just over 2 hours drive from Mthatha, or 45 minutes from Coffee Bay.
If you are hiking along the coast, you will find us 10 km North up the coast from Coffee Bay, or approx 60km South down the coast from Port St Johns, and 20km down the coast form Hluleka Nature Reserve.

Store
We run a full-time convenience store where you can buy essentials and some groceries to save you a trip into town. We stock preserved foods such as pastas, canned foods, long-life milk, frozen meats
e.t.c, many snacks and cold drinks, as well as bread and various fresh veg when available.
You can also be sure to stock up on toiletries, cooking oil, cigarettes and some basic medication.
There is a liquor store close by if you wish to buy alcohol.
The nearest supermarket is in Ngcwanguba, over an hour away. If you'd like to know about any specific items, don't hesitate to give us a call.
There are no ATMs nearby, so please try bring enough physical cash for whatever you may want to buy from local stores and fisherman.
Unfortunately we do not have a card machine, but a bank transfer can be arranged for larger payments.

We offer safe and comfortable village accommodation in traditoinal Xhosa rondavels.
